Hurricane Fabric Roll Down

Real-World Testing Results

Our Atlas Armor hurricane screens offer state-of-the-art hurricane protection with extensive Real-World testing. GThe results of our Real-World testing is that our screens have NEVER failed (come out of their tracks) during any type of storm. To date, after 10-years, our screens have been tested by 17 Tropical Storms (35 mph – 74mph), 25 hurricanes (75 mph – 155 mph), and 5 tornadoes EF1, EF2, and EF3 (111 mph – 135 mph) totaling 47 major storms.

Insurance companies operating within Florida are leaving Florida (such as Farmers Insurance) because to the high damage liability related to sub-par hurricane protection. We can say with 100% certainty, that we have never contributed to the cause of insurance companies leaving our state. Our screens add value to your home and because of our protection and warranty policies, we actually save you money on damage repair bills.

Designed for High Wind Hurricane Protection

Our hurricane screens have been designed to be used in environments that normally experience hurricanes and tornadoes, and tropical weather (high heat, high humidity, salt air, bright daily sunlight, high winds and rain). Our screen design ensures that the screens will not come out of their sidetracks because all of our hurricane screens are made out of a single piece of fabric. All other competitive screen products are designed to be made in three (3) vertical pieces, which consists of the main screen panel and two side pieces (called Keders). In the 3-piece Keder design, the center fabric is held in place by two vertical sewn threads or by a weld. Welding works well on a flat, sheet of plastic without holes (such as a Macy Day Balloon) but hurricane screens have holes, and the vertical threads are made from Aramid (aka Kevlar). Aramid is NOT weldable. In fact, high heat actually damages the strength of the Aramid fibers which in turn can causes the screens to fail. The Atlas Armor design is a screen made out of a single piece of fabric where every horizontal thread works to hold the screen in place. Because welding is questionable when using screens with Aramid, Atlas Armor never welds, we only sew our screens. It takes more time and skill, but the end results are much better. This also allows us to visually to see if there are any problems. If a problem is found, it can be easily fixed. When you weld, you cannot tell if the weld was successful without doing a damaging test (physically pulling the fabric apart). Once damaged, the area is NOT reparable. So, only a sample piece of screen is occasionally tested. Production screens (the kind you buy) are NEVER tested for welding quality. The weld may look good, but it may fail without much effort. We can say with certainty, that our fabric screen design has never failed in the last 10 years.

"Atlas Armor Hurricane Screens, Protecting Your World"

To meet the environmental demands, our screens have been built using non-rusting components such as fabric, stainless steel, powder coated aluminum, and high-strength plastic used for our guides. Our fabric consists of a material that is woven out of two very strong yarns: polyester and Aramid (aka Kevlar). We offer 3-brands of motors: Somfy, Gaposa and Dooya. Each brand of motor can be configured to be operated by means of a hand-held controller, any home automation system, phone or mobile tablet such as an iPad, and gear-only for small screens. We have several issued US patents relating to our hurricane screens. Because our warranty is transferable, it offers you a FULL 10-years of protection, all of our components are built to out-last our 10-year, transferable warranty time period. Our screens are used every day of the year to control: radiant solar heat, insects including no-see-ums, personal privacy, sun light that causes discomfort, solar UV rays that causes material color fading, wind and rain. When our screens are not protecting against hurricanes, tropical storms or tornadoes (EF0, EF1, EF2), they are being used as a COMFORT screen. Just push a button to adjust
your protection or comfort any day of the year. Our screens can be built into the walls and ceilings of new construction, and they can be installed on existing homes. The screens are primarily used to protect covered back patios, front entrances and garage doors (the largest and weakest opening on your home). Our roll down screens offers an additional layer of protection to your impact windows and doors. When used on a back patio, they allow you, by pushing the down button, to quickly secure all of your outdoor furniture, toys, plants, and other items that would normally be required to be moved indoors before a storm so that they would not be blown around and possible damage your home’s walls or windows or glass doors. You are not required to add shims to the sidetracks or screws to the sidetracks or bolts to anchor the bottom weight bar. Just push the down button on one of your controls and in less than a minute, your covered area is secured.

Screen Colors

Our screen fabric comes in several colors: black, white, black and tan, white and tan. I recommend the black color because it is the easiest to see through, always looks clean, and is a universal color that can be used with any decor. White is the hardest to see through because light is reflected off the screen back into your eyes. When you look through the white screen, it is as if you are looking through a cloud. White is also the hardest to keep clean although all of our screens can be washed resulting in a fresh fabric look and feel. All fabrics offer the same protection and warranty and unlike other companies, all of our fabrics are priced the same. Our standard metal colors are: White, Ivory, Bronze and Beige. For an extra fee, we can custom powder coat your metals any color that you desire.

Other Types of Hurricane Fabric Screens

Atlas Armor hurricane screens are the oldest certified roll-down fabric screen available for the Florida High-Velocity Hurricane Zone (HVHZ) Miami-Dade & Broward counties.

Other states, such as Texas, often use Miami-Dade approval as their standard, and insurance companies often insist on products that carry the NOA approval.

Because Atlas Armor hurricane screens are warranted for 10 years, WE BUILD OUR SCREENS TO BE USED in a saltwater environment. We use the best materials and components that are currently available.

All metals are powder-coated, our motors are warranted for 4 or 5 years (based upon the type of motor), and our screens are warranted for 10 years. We offer all stainless-steel components for our coastal customers. Our screens are made from heavy extruded aluminum, stainless steel, and polyester/Aramid fabric. Aramid is also known by the trademarked named Kevlar.

The Power of Rolldown Hurricane Screens

Why pay more to have one product for hurricane protection, another for solar protection, and another for insect protection? Think of our Atlas Armor hurricane screens as the “Swiss Army Knife” of the screening world because one screen provides all of your protection and comfort needs in ONE screen. Our Atlas Armor hurricane screens also protect against solar heat, harmful solar UV rays, flying insects including no-see-ums, and everyday wind and rain. Our transparent fabric screens also allow you to enjoy your view, and they let in light and those comfortable light breezes.

Why Choose Fabric Rolldown Hurricane Screens?

Our one-piece heavy-duty tracks, motor idles, and reels are designed for an extended lifetime of heavy usage. Atlas Armor hurricane screens are a blend of Aramid (used to build race cars, airplanes, and military bulletproof vests) and Polyester, which is much stronger than the other typical screen fabrics made of Polypropylene (used for water ski ropes) or Polyurethane (used for trampolines’). Atlas Armor hurricane screens are not affected by the sun’s UV rays like the other screens that dry out, shrink and turn brittle. Again, look at the other screening product’s warranty. Our screens love the sun.

We have two types of screens: roll-down and fixed panels. The roll down screen is remotely controlled, Our patented hurricane fixed panels are manually placed into sidetracks and anchored in place by means of 2 stainless steel pins. No tools required. The tracks for the panels are always mounted on the outside but the fabric can be installed into the tracks while you are either on the outside or on the inside of the home … on any floor level as long as you can reach the sidetrack on each side of the opening

Because Atlas Armor hurricane screens can be used every day instead of just once a year or once in several years, the Kevlar hurricane screens cost divided by the actual usage days makes ownership just a few pennies per day. PLUS, you also get the daily comfort benefits as well. For example, take someone else’s $1,000 hurricane product and divide it by the number of days you use it. If you use it once every 2 years, it will cost you $500 per day for that 2-year time frame. In the case of Atlas Armor hurricane screens, you would be using them every day for those 2 years, so that it would cost you $1.37 per day. Now, divide the cost of our screen by the number of warranty days to get the actual daily price of $0.27 per day for our screen. Pennies. Now add that, you will need to replace (buy again) the other product when they get damaged, but not ours. See our warranty.

IMPORTANT – BEWARE the “ACTS OF GOD” warranty clause: All warranties used this clause within a hurricane warranty as a reason to VOID warranty coverage. This clause refers to any natural event such as wind. Atlas Armor is the only company that EXCLUDES wind damage from the “Acts of God” definition, which means that we will protect you from hurricane wind damage. This is very important so I will say it again, Atlas Armor will give you a FREE fabric replacement or FREE repair if your screen ever receives wind damage – including hurricane wind damage. Our screens have never experienced wind damage that left the opening unprotected, but in case they should, RELAX, you will not have to pay for a replacement fabric panel. Because all other manufactures of hurricane products INCLUDE WIND in their “Act of God” clause definition to void the warranty, they will charge you for the replacement fabric panel which typically costs thousands of dollars for each panel. Think about that, hurricanes are about 90% strong wind, 8% rain and 2% flying debris and the other hurricane protection product warranties are VOIDED if their screens suffer wind damage. Maybe it’s just me, but I believe that makes their hurricane warranties worthless because they have excluded the most probable (90%) source of hurricane damage.
