Hurricane Fabric Roll Down
Reliable Roll Down Hurricane Screens for Extreme Weather
Our Atlas Armor roll down hurricane screens offer state-of-the-art hurricane protection with extensive Real-World testing. The results of our Real-World testing show that our screens have NEVER failed (come out of their tracks) during any type of storm. To date, after 10 years, our screens have been tested by 17 Tropical Storms (35 mph – 74 mph), 25 hurricanes (75 mph – 155 mph), and 5 tornadoes EF0, EF1, and EF2 (111 mph – 135 mph) totaling 47 major storms.
Insurance companies operating within Florida are leaving Florida (such as Farmers Insurance) because of the high damage liability related to sub-par hurricane protection. We can say with 100% certainty that we have never contributed to the cause of insurance companies leaving our state. Our roll down hurricane screens add value to your home, and because of our protection and warranty policies, we actually save you money on damage repair bills.
Designed for High Wind Hurricane Protection
Our roll down hurricane screens have been designed to be used in environments that normally experience hurricanes, tornadoes, and tropical weather (high heat, high humidity, salt air, bright daily sunlight, high winds, and rain). Our primary mission was to create a screen design that ensures the screens will not come out of their side tracks during any type of storm. We found that it is best to use a single piece of fabric and capitalize on the fabric’s full strength.
All other competitive screen products designed their screens to be made in three (3) vertical pieces, which consist of the main screen panel and two side pieces (called Keders). In the 3-piece Keder design, the center fabric is held in place by two vertically attached Keders. The Keders are generally welded to the main panel. Welding works well on a flat sheet of plastic without holes (such as a Macy Day Balloon or swimming pool toy), but hurricane screens have holes, the horizontal yarns in, our screens, are made of Polyester and the vertical yarns are made from DuPont™ Kevlar® which are NOT weldable. In fact, high heat actually damages the strength of the DuPont™ Kevlar® yarns, which in turn, can cause the screens to fail. Keders do not have the same tensile strength as the center main fabric panel, so it is like mounting a steel plate to an opening using strong duct tape on the sides. We don’t think that is a good idea.
Because welding is questionable when using screens with Aramid, Atlas Armor never welds; we only sew our screens. It takes more time and skill, but the end results are much better. This also allows us to visually see if there are any problems. If a problem is found, it can be easily fixed. When you weld, you cannot tell if the weld was successful without doing a damaging test (physically pulling the fabric apart). Once damaged, the area is NOT repairable. So, only a sample piece of screen is occasionally tested. Production screens (the kind you buy) are NEVER tested for welding quality. The weld may look good, but it may fail without much effort. We can say with certainty that our roll down hurricane screens have never failed in the last 10 years.
"Atlas Armor Hurricane Screens, Protecting Your World"
Built to Out Last, 10 Full Years
Built to Last a Full 10 Years To meet the environmental demands, our roll down hurricane screens have been built using non-rusting components such as fabric, stainless steel, powder-coated aluminum, and high-strength plastic used for our guides. Our Omegatex fabric consists of two very strong yarns: 50% polyester and 50% DuPont™ Kevlar® woven together.
We offer three brands of motors: Somfy, Gaposa, and Dooya. Each brand of motor can be configured to be operated by means of a hand-held controller, any home automation system, phone or mobile tablet such as an iPad, and gear-only for small screens.
We have several issued US patents relating to our hurricane screens.
Because our warranty is transferable, it offers you a FULL 10 years of protection, and all of our components are built to outlast our 10-year, transferable warranty period. You are protected by our exclusive Atlas Storm Shield hurricane wind warranty.
Push Button Comfort
Our roll down hurricane screens are used every day of the year to control: radiant solar heat, insects including no-see-ums, personal privacy, sunlight that causes discomfort, solar UV rays that cause material color fading, wind, and rain.
When our screens are not protecting against hurricanes, tropical storms, or tornadoes (EF0, EF1, EF2), they are being used as a COMFORT screen. Just push a button to adjust your protection or comfort any day of the year.
Our screens can be built into the walls and ceilings of new construction, and they can be installed on existing homes.
The screens are primarily used to protect covered back patios, front entrances, and garage doors (the largest and weakest opening on your home). Our roll down hurricane screens offer an additional layer of protection to your impact windows and doors. When used on a back patio, just push the down button to quickly secure all of your outdoor furniture, toys, plants, and other items that would normally be required to be moved indoors before a storm. Items left to blow around become flying missiles that can damage your home’s walls, windows, or glass doors.
You are never required to add sidetrack shims or screw pieces of the sidetracks together or to install bolts to anchor the bottom weight bar. Just push the down button on your control, and in less than 30 seconds, your covered area is a secured storm bunker.
Screen Fabric and Metal Colors
Our Omegatex screen fabric comes in several colors: black, white, black and tan, white and tan. I recommend the black color because it is the easiest to see through, always looks clean, and is a universal color that can be used with any decor. White is the hardest to see through because light is reflected off the screen back into your eyes. When you look through the white screen, it is as if you are looking through a cloud. White is also the hardest to keep clean, although all of our screens can be washed, resulting in a fresh fabric look and feel. All fabrics offer the same protection and warranty, and unlike other companies, all of our fabrics are priced the same.
Our standard metal colors are White, Ivory, Bronze, and Beige. For an extra fee, we can custom powder-coat your metals in any color that you desire.
Other Types of Hurricane Fabric Screens
Atlas Armor hurricane screens are the oldest NOA certified roll-down fabric screen available for the Florida High-Velocity Hurricane Zone (HVHZ) Miami-Dade & Broward counties.
Other states, such as Texas, often use Miami-Dade approval as their standard, and insurance companies often insist on products that carry the NOA approval.
HIGH QUALITY IN EVERY WAY
Because Atlas Armor hurricane screens are warranted for 10 years, WE BUILD OUR SCREENS TO BE USED in a saltwater environment. We use the best materials and components that are currently available.
All metals are powder-coated, our motors are warranted for 4 or 5 years (based upon the type of motor), and our screens are warranted for 10 years. We offer all stainless-steel components for our coastal customers. Our screens are made from heavy extruded aluminum, stainless steel, and fabric woven from 50% polyester and 50% DuPont™ Kevlar®.
The Power of Roll Down Hurricane Screens
Why pay more to have one product for hurricane protection, another for solar protection, and another for insect protection? Think of our Atlas Armor roll down hurricane screens as the “Swiss Army Knife” of the screening world because one screen provides all of your protection and comfort needs in ONE screen. Our Atlas Armor hurricane screens also protect against solar heat, harmful solar UV rays, flying insects including no-see-ums, and everyday wind and rain. Our transparent fabric screens also allow you to enjoy your view, and they let in light and those comfortable light breezes.
This is a photo of our roll down hurricane screen (on the front) and a fixed screen (on the side) of a patio. The fixed screen is held in place by either 3 or 4 side tracks. Fixed screens provide storm protection and visual privacy from the very close next-door neighbor.
We also have removable screen panels that are only used when required. They are also mounted in 2 opposing side tracks (like the roll down screen) and locked in place with a stainless-steel pin.
Why Choose Fabric Roll Down Hurricane Screens?
Our one-piece heavy-duty tracks, motor idles, and reels are designed for an extended lifetime of heavy usage. Atlas Armor roll down hurricane screens are a blend of 50% DuPont™ (used to build race cars, airplanes, and military bulletproof vests) and 50% Polyester, which is much stronger than the other typical screen fabrics made of Polypropylene (used for water ski ropes) or Polyurethane (used for trampolines). Atlas Armor hurricane screens are not affected by the sun’s UV rays like the other screens that dry out, shrink, and turn brittle. Again, look at the other screening product’s warranty. Our screens love the sun. With our reliable and durable screens in place, you can relax knowing your home is well-protected.
VERY, VERY COST EFFECTIVE
Because Atlas Armor roll down hurricane screens can be used every day instead of just once a year or once in several years. If you divide our hurricane screens cost by the actual usage days, you will see your ownership will be just a few pennies per day. PLUS, you also get the daily comfort benefits as well. For example, take someone else’s $1,000 hurricane product and divide it by the number of days you use it. If you use it once every 2 years, it will cost you $500 per day for that 2-year time frame. In the case of Atlas Armor hurricane screens, you would be using them every day for those 2 years, it would cost you only $1.37 per day. Now, divide the cost of our screen by the number of warranty days (10yr x 365days = 3650 warranty days) you will see that daily price is only $0.27 per day for our screen. Pennies. Now add in the cost of replacing other manufacturer’s damaged screen panels and you will see that we are far below our competition. See our warranty.
